St John the Baptist's church in Coltishall is a typical example of a Norfolk church. The nave is roofed with thatch, which isn't uncommon in this part of the world, and the large, bright interior is somewhat of a rarity in village churches like this.
The tower holds a ring of six bells, with the tenor weighing 10-0-25cwt and tuned to G. The bells are by a mixed bag of founders, spanning two centauries. The bells are hung on Gillett & Johnston fittings from 1951, and were last overhauled in 2001. The bells are rung from a first floor ringing chamber which, when looking up at it from the inside of the church, can clearly be seen that it once was a gallery, but a more recent addition of a temporary wall has closed the ringers in to their own room. The bells are incredibly quiet in the ringing room, and the rope noise from the guides is very off-putting when trying to concentrate on the striking. They are very easy to ring however, and are always a fun tower to visit.
