DOUDOU KASSAMA WINS 27TH GAMBIA OPEN GOFL EDITION

PREAMBLE

The Gambia Golf Association, GGA, has successfully hosted the 27th Gambia Open at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Golf Course in Fajara. Golfers from The Gambia, Senegal and Sierra Leone competed over four days in the country’s biggest golf tournament. Our Golf Correspondent, Sheh Joof, reports.

STORY

Golfers gathered at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Golf Course in Fajara for the 27th edition of the Gambia Open, organised by the Gambia Golf Association.

Professional golfers, amateurs and caddies from The Gambia, Senegal and Sierra Leone competed for prize money worth over three thousand dollars in a highly competitive tournament.

In the Caddies category, Ebrima Santos Jarjue won the Junior title, while Lamin Tamba emerged winner in the Senior division.

ACTUALITY

Seventeen professional golfers from the three countries competed over two rounds for the main prizes.

Doudou Kassama took an early lead after finishing two under par on the first day.

However, the final round became intense as young Gambian professional Alasana Jallow challenged strongly, levelling with Kassama at the 15th hole in a thrilling performance exciting spectators.

ACTUALITY

Showing experience and composure, Kassama regained the lead at the 18th hole to clinch the title and become the champion of the 27th Gambia Open.

Doudou Kassama goes home with seventy-five thousand dalasis as champion, while Alasana Jallow takes fifty thousand dalasis for second place.

The defending champion, Antony Jatta, finished third and received thirty thousand dalasis.

In the Senior Professionals category, Omar Jadama finished first, followed by Pa J.J. Famara Jatta in second place and Alfie Drammeh in third.
ACTUALITY

The competition continues in the amateur categories as players complete the first nine holes in the Stableford format with a schedule to conclude their 18-hole rounds.
