Alycia Meriweather is a lifelong Detroiter whose leadership was forged inside the very classrooms she would one day oversee. Beginning her career as a science teacher in Detroit Public Schools, Meriweather rose through curriculum leadership and district administration by staying grounded in one principle: students first.
In 2016, during one of the most fragile moments in the district’s history, she stepped in as Interim Superintendent leading with transparency, stability, and deep respect for educators, families, and students. She proved that leadership doesn’t need permanence or flash to make lasting impact.
Today, as Deputy Superintendent for External Partnerships & Innovation, Meriweather continues guiding Detroit’s schools through recovery and reform focused on literacy, equity, and opportunity.
