🌍 About the Jungfrau Railway
Construction started: 1893 but the first line opened in 1912.
Track length: 9.34 km with 1,393 m Elevation gain
Rack system: Strub rack / Cogwheel railway with 25% Max gradient
Electrification: 3-phase AC, 1,125 V (unique system!)
Tunnels: The majority of the route (7 km) runs inside the Eiger and Mönch mountains, with dramatic observation windows carved into the rock.
Construction of the Jungfraubahn took 16 years of daring engineering at extreme altitudes — an achievement that was considered impossible in the early 20th century.
