The state's 80% of rural residents depend primarily on agriculture for their livelihood. Their primary source of work and revenue is agriculture. Dependence on nature, poor investment, low productivity, mono-cropping with paddy as the dominating crop, inadequate irrigation facilities, and tiny and marginal holdings are the main characteristics of the agricultural economy of the state of Jharkhand. As much as 92% of the total farmed area is not irrigated, which illustrates how dependent agriculture is on the whims of the rain god.
Eighty per cent of the population of Jharkhand State lives in 32620 villages and relies primarily on agriculture and related activities for their subsistence. The state is blessed with enormous and rich natural resources, particularly those of minerals and forests. One of Jharkhand State's immediate development plans is sustainably developing agriculture and rural areas. Any effort to improve capacity should be the main focus. In terms of agricultural development, ensuring novel, affordable, and timely availability of inputs has substantial relevance in addition to technological factors.
