The Alpine a290 is the sportier relative of the Renault 5 E-TECH on which it is based!
The hot-hatch EV market is quickly growing with competition from MINI & Abarth as well as new arrivals due from Peugeot with the 208 GTi & Volkswagen with the ID.2 GTI (not related!)
Renault’s 5 is a car I recently tested and an EV which has won many awards for its quirky design, intuitive interior & affordable price tag. The A290 features a more powerful motor with 177BHP or 217BHP, they all have the long range Renault 5 battery which is 52kWh. Of course being more powerful, the Alpine has a shorter range than the 5 with a WLTP figure of up to 236 miles.
Not only is the a290 more powerful, it also features unique suspension, brakes and wheels compared to the Renault! The interior & exterior design is also further sporty with a premium spin.
