Описание: It's officially barred owl breeding season! After spending weeks of nightly nest box visits and "nestorations", mama owl finally settled in mid-February. Here is the outside view of our barred owl nesting box.

Two Barred owls, affectionately named "Tootsie & Pops" have been in our backyard for the past few years. The nesting box was built in 2023 and mounted on a dead hickory tree approximately 30 ft high, but the owls didn't take residence until January 2024. They had a successful brood of two owlets that year. Although the owls frequented the box during the 2025 season, no eggs were laid.

Because this nesting box is in our backyard, you might hear our dog, Remi, barking at a chipmunk she has been chasing, or our children laughing/screaming/crying, etc (or me and my wife doing the same 🫠😅 ). Fortunately, the owls are pretty familiar to these noises and have still chosen to nest here. While we try to limit distractions or noises that may stress them, this is their "normal" habitat.
