What shocked rescuers and the entire country was the loyalty of their pet dog, Sheru, a pitbull. For four continuous days, Sheru stayed beside his owner’s dead body in the snow. No food. No shelter. No fear. He refused to leave.
After weather conditions improved, the Indian Air Force deployed helicopters for rescue. One body was found near a tree — and Sheru was still there, guarding his owner. The rescue team had to sedate the dog to safely retrieve the body. Later, the second body was recovered from a nearby stream.
