This is the basic fighting position that was done for decades until the v-shaped hasty was adopted as the standard. It is 1 rifle wide, at least 2 rifles in length, and dug to armpit depth. The spoil (dirt) removed is added to sandbags for reinforcement, placed around the outside for a berm, or hauled away and disposed of to conceal the position. This position takes longer to dig than the v-shaped hasty but works better on hillsides and ridges than the v-shaped. When digging 1 troop digs while the other pulls security and helps hold open sandbags for filling. When assisting with the sandbags they hold the bag open and close them while keeping their eyes on the perimeter and their weapon is right next to them. This position is mainly used by troops equipped with rifles or squad automatic weapons like the M-249 or RPK.
