We live in a culture that minimizes sin, renames it, or explains it away. Scripture does not. In this message from the Overcoming Biblical Illiteracy series, we return to the Bible’s clear, courageous, and Christ-centered doctrine of sin, beginning with Romans 5:12.
This teaching addresses:
• What sin truly is, as defined by God’s Word
• Why sin is not merely external behavior, but a condition of the human heart
• How Adam’s sin impacted all humanity, and why the gospel must be more than moral advice
• Seven high-impact realities about sin, including its power to enslave, separate, and destroy
• The promise of forgiveness and cleansing through honest confession (1 John 1:9)
• God’s provision of a way of escape in temptation through the power of the Holy Spirit
Silence about sin shrinks the gospel. When sin is minimized, redemption is impoverished. But when sin is named honestly, grace shines more brightly and Christ is magnified.
This message closes with a pastoral call of hope: Jesus Christ came to save sinners. Through the cross and resurrection, forgiveness, cleansing, and newness of life are freely offered to all who repent and believe.
