💭 This division model can be a little strange to wrap your head around, so I wanted to start with the concrete example.
🌟 If your student is struggling, start by building the rectangles using small numbers such as
15÷5 and 12÷2
Once they’re comfortable making rectangles, move to large dividends and small divisors
42÷2, 85÷5, and 96÷4
And finally large dividends with double digit divisors
455÷13 and 432÷2
With the larger numbers, they should probably be just drawing the rectangle, unless you want to deal with counting out over 400 small items 😅
💡 Like so many of the new methods, it seems strange to do this process that takes so much time instead of just using long division. But remember, our purpose here is to teach our kids to think, not just follow steps to get through a problem. It can be tough!! But your kid will benefit from understanding the process.
