The Milgram Experiment - Do You Obey Authority?

The experiment was carried out as follows: at each session, 3 participants were present:
1 - The experimenter - who was in charge of the session and represented the supreme authority.
2 - The teacher - a volunteer who was made to believe that he did not have an important role, when in fact he was the main subject of the experiment
and 3 - The learner - who was a paid actor to play the role of a volunteer and was a confederate of the experimenter.

Next, the teacher and the learner were taken to a room where the learner was strapped into what appeared to be an electric chair. After that, the teacher was taken to a separate room where he could no longer see the learner, but could only communicate with him. The teacher was given a list of groups of 2 words in pair and was told to read them to the learner to test his memory skills. Initially, the teacher had to read the whole list and after that, the learner had to answer with the correct pair for each word. If he made a mistake, he was given an electric shock that increased by 15 volts for each wrong answer. The shock was generated at the push of a button by the teacher. In reality, there was no real electric shock, only pre-recorded sounds meant to fool the teacher that the learner was actually given electric shocks. The switches that the teacher could push were labelled with terms including "slight shock," "moderate shock" and "danger: severe shock." The final two switches were labelled simply with a scary “XXX."

Now, in the situation where the teacher would have started to protest and no longer wanted to generate the supposed shocks, the experimenter would have entered the scene, instructed to say the following sentences exactly in the order presented, for each protest of the teacher:
Please continue.
The experiment requires that you continue.
It is absolutely essential that you continue.
You have no other choice, you must go on.

The results are absolutely unexpected and sad, 65% of the participants administered the experiment's final massive 450-volt shock and all of them administered shocks of at least 300 volts.
