Joined by Lee Reiherzer, Local History Librarian Mike explores the legacy of Robert Brand and Sons Company, known for crafting beautiful bars and bar fixtures that played a significant role in the city's thriving saloon culture in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
In the 1880s, as Oshkosh saw a boom in neighborhood saloons, Robert Brand’s craftsmanship became highly sought after. The company’s bars, booths and back bars were featured in many of the town's drinking establishments. Robert Brand, a skilled woodworker and Civil War veteran, turned his company into a household name in the bar-building industry, and hear about the ups and downs of the business through the years, including its decline during Prohibition and resurgence in the 1930s with Art Deco-style bars.
Lee also highlights a few surviving Brand and Sons bars still on display in Oshkosh today!
