Plantar Fasciitis is defined by inflammation of the plantar fascia, and it is typically accompanied by a sharp, stabbing pain in the heel and/or arch of the foot.
Before beginning self-treatment, take note of your pain, asymmetries, ranges of motion, strength, and activity levels, as this will be a guide to measure improvements or degradations of your condition in the following weeks.
First, apply lotion or lubricant to the bottom of your foot and round your toes to reduce tension in your plantar fascia.
Second, glide the tool at a steep angle to your skin, and apply light pressure as you move towards your heel.
You can gradually apply additional pressure until your pain tolerance is met.
As you use your tool, you may feel adhesions, bumps, or grits under the skin.
These adhesions can be found throughout your entire body, as they surround your muscles, tendons, ligaments, arteries, veins, lymph nodes and nerves and they can create problems for your movement patterns and your flexibility.
Third, place your ankle into inversion and eversion as you glide the tool against the inner and outer parts of your foot.
You can also glide the tool across the arch of your foot in a horizontal direction.
If you can, pull your toes back and continue to glide the tool with, against, and across the sole of the foot.
Normal treatment time for Plantar Fasciitis is 1-3 minutes per foot per day.
After 1 week of self-treatment, subjectively measure your pain, asymmetries, ranges of motion, strength, and activity levels to determine if this treatment is working for you or not.
If your skin becomes irritated, your activity levels are declining, or you feel that you are hurting yourself, terminate self-treatment and consider using an ice pack on the area to reduce inflammation. Seek medical attention as you may have other complications that may be preventing your condition from improving.
