When do babies start cooing and gurgling

Описание: A coo is a vocalisation that is a single-syllable. Coos are usually open-vowel sounds like ‘ahh’ and gradually progress to closed-vowel sounds eg: ‘oooo’ or ‘eeee’.

Here are three ways to encourage your baby’s coos:

1️⃣ LOOK at your baby and copy their sounds:

🗣️Research shows that babies make more vocalizations when they gaze into an adult’s eyes! 👀

✔️Copying helps to promote early language skills.
✔️Respond to your baby’s coos. If your baby makes a sound, repeat it and add another sound.

2️⃣Sit FACE 2 FACE and keep the “talking” going.

✔️Smile at your baby.
✔️Exaggerate your lip movements and use a high-pitched tone.
✔️PAUSE often to see if your baby responds with another coo or smile.

3️⃣ Oral exploration:
Exploring objects with their mouth also helps lay the foundation for speech and prepare them to eat solid foods.

✔️Mouthing hands, fingers and objects helps your baby develop oral-motor skills.
✔️This allows your baby to gather information about objects from very early in life and lays the basis for object recognition and representation.
✔️A fascinating longitudinal study showed that object exploratory skills at 6 months were linked to word comprehension, gestures, and vocal production at 12 months❤️
