The North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District Board of Education meeting on 6/25/2024, in Annandale, NJ, and seen in full @nhvboe7620, included one board member speaking out about the American Library Association ALA, the New Jersey Education Association NJEA, and the high school's librarian Martha Hickson, and why they should not be considered experts when judging obscenity in books in New Jersey school libraries under New Jersey's obscenity law NJS 2C:34-3. The school librarian testified to the NJ Assembly Education Committee that only judges and juries can determine what's obscenity, so nothing is until a court case has concluded, then only on a book by book basis. At one point, another board member slams her computer lid then interrupts the first when the first states how the ALA president describes herself. The board president reminds everyone that the first is speaking in her own capacity, something he didn't apply to others. Some audience members begin to get vocal while the board was speaking, a pressure tactic for which the board president apologized in this meeting for not controlling in the previous meeting; later, one audience member bows repeatedly to the board president as soon as the meeting concludes.
The book being discussed is "Let's Talk About It: The Teen's Guide to S*x, Relationships, and Being a Human (A Graphic Novel)" Paperback – March 9, 2021, by Erika Moen (Author), Matthew Nolan (Author)
Principal speakers are board members Nicole Gallo, Jessica Viotto, Glen Farbanish, and audience member Guy Citron.
This was recorded by myself while in attendance at the meeting sitting in front row.
