*DISCLAIMER: Hacking into any sort of public warning system is a felony. The activation tones used in this video are to notify me & other siren enthusiasts when a siren is about to activate, give me & others an idea on which type of tones are used to activate these sirens, and for the sake of enjoyment.
They are not intended to be used to set off any siren or system of sirens whenever we feel like it. If any of you misuse the tones in this video, I will not cover for you and you will be held fully accountable for your actions. Also, if any of you own a two-way radio, make sure it is turned off before watching this video since they can apparently transmit activation tones in a video format.
**Skip to 0:17 to hear this siren activate.
***You can also feel free to stop watching the video around 2:55 if you prefer not to listen to the ambience of the other surrounding sirens that continue for longer after this one winds down completely.
Since the video of the siren I filmed this month turned out like crap, I decided to delete that video and upload the video of the siren I went to for last month's 1st Tuesday test. Hoping that I'd have an opportunity to film the ACA P-15 at Michael Collins Elementary in Schaumburg given that the school was still on winter break, I figured why not head there this month. Well, as you can tell by title & thumbnail of the video, I was greeted with a huge disappointment when I discovered a new-logo ASC T-128 up on the pole.
Yep! Apparently, this siren replaced the P-15 sometime near the end of 2021, and since there was no other siren I could get to in time, I was basically stuck with filming this piece of garbage. I guess the question as to whether this siren is single-toned or dual-toned will remain a mystery. However, the kind of test this siren performed today was interesting & rather strange. After reviewing the footage I took, I noticed that this siren activated before the activation tones from Northwest Central Dispatch (NWCD) were sent out.
Usually, sirens on NWCD's frequency will activate after the two-tone & DTMF codes are sent out, but that didn't appear to be the case with this T-128. I'm wondering if Schaumburg recently removed themselves from the NWCD frequency and somehow created their own frequency to activate their sirens off of. But that wasn't the only interesting & strange thing that happened today.
Later on throughout the test, this T-128 pulled a Kenosha County ACA P-50 by hiccuping at 1:17. I'm not sure what was up with that, but it seems like either the controller experienced a power surge or a type of activation tone that reactivates a siren went through. It also seems like some other nearby T-128s might've pulled a KC as well by continuing to activate for an additional 3-4 minutes despite the number of cancel tones that were probably sent to it.
Even though I missed my opportunity to film this P-15, the fact that this siren randomly hiccuped somehow made up for what it replaced, especially since it's rare to witness a T-128 do something like that. Besides the ASC sirens, some other sirens that can be heard before & after this siren activates are Federal Signal 2001s from Itasca. Cook County & the majority of Illinois test their sirens on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM.
