Digital Fabrication Workshop

Описание: Digital Fabrication Workshop is one of ten workshops held as part of the Department of Architecture's 20 year anniversary. Department of Architecture and Urban Planning is part of the Faculty of Technical Sciences at the University of Novi Sad.

The workshop consisted of four sections or four approaches to building a large-scale, friction fit based, triangular, wooden pavilion.

The first approach considered using single triangular elements, made out of thick paper, with flaps on each side for connection purposes via glue. The approach proved to be very time consuming, but offered better rigidness due to multiple reinforcements in form of flaps.

The second approach built upon the latter, but grouped the triangles into developable stripes with flaps on their naked edges, which improved upon the assembly time, but offered less rigidness due to a lower number of flaps.

The third approach turned towards using a plywood waffle based construction principle, with friction fit connection in order to generate a rigid structure that looks like the original and also provide falsework for the fourth approach as well.

The fourth approach focused on using origami and kirigami folding and connecting principles to generate triangular gyroscope modular elements that have three prongs used for connecting with one another. Due to their properties, making a triangular tessellation was not possible so a dual graph was introduced using triangles centers as vertices in order to form hexagonal tessellation.

Students of various years and levels of experience participated, and made the models during the workshop.
