September 25, 2025, With 8 inches of snow just two days ago and ice reported above 10,000, I decided I'd head to one of my favorite local trails in the Roosevelt National Forest. I solo hiked to the summit of Stone Mountain via the Round Mountain Trailhead. This is my first time to summit solo but I remembered the way up. It was such a crystal clear day to be among the peaks. I was the only person hiking there this day, which is unheard of. These trails are popular. Dogs are welcome but please bring lots of water along with you. Have some in your car for when you return too. 8 miles and 2200 feet of elevation gain.
