(11 Dec 2015) Thousands of Hamas supporters took to the streets of Jabaliya, a town in northern Gaza Strip, on Friday to mark the 28th anniversary of the founding of the party.
Hamas has ruled the Gaza Strip since seizing power in a five-day conflict with Fatah in 2007, after they were democratically elected to rule the coastal strip and a power struggle developed.
The movement has used the elaborate annual commemoration of its December 1987 founding to demonstrate its control, with large military-style gatherings attended by hundreds of thousands of people.
