What is an API?

Application Programming Interface, or API, is a software bridge that enables communication between two applications. You utilise an API every time you use a mobile app like Instagram, send a text message, or check the weather forecast.

An "API" has frequently been used to refer to any type of general connectivity access to an application over the years.

When you use a mobile application, it connects to the Internet and sends information to a server. The data is subsequently retrieved, interpreted, put to use, and sent back to your phone by the server. The application then analyses the data and displays the information you requested in a comprehensible manner. All of this occurs through an API.
