Since 1969, Cinema For All has hosted the Film Society of the Year Awards in order to honour, reward and celebrate the incredible volunteers who keep cinema alive all across the UK.
Our highest honour is the Roebuck Cup, which recognises the remarkable individuals who may have been involved in the starting of many community cinemas, kept the ideal of Cinema For All going, or supported the film society movement in all sorts of ways, often over many years.
This year’s Roebuck Cup was awarded to 94 year old Manchester and Salford Film Society President Marjorie Ainsworth - a wonderful woman whose resilience, determination, strength and fortitude has often been the very pillar of her film society. A society, which happens to be England’s oldest continuously running volunteer-led cinema.
This is her story.
