Asansol Durga Temple Reopens After 17 Years Following BJP's Election Sweep In Paschim Bardhaman

The reopening occurred shortly after the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a sweeping victory across all nine assembly seats in the Paschim Bardhaman district. Managed by the Sri Sri Durga Mata Charitable Trust, the temple was previously inaccessible for most of the year. Prayers were restricted to just four days annually during major festivals such as Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, and Kali Puja. The prolonged closure was attributed to local community tensions, administrative restrictions, and alleged appeasement politics. Following the election results, a large number of devotees and party workers gathered at the temple to offer prayers and celebrate the reopening. A local BJP MLA, who had promised year-round access to the shrine if elected, visited the temple and facilitated its reopening within two hours of the party achieving a majority.
