Management of Adolescent Clavicle Fractures

Описание: Dr. Kenneth Swan, Jr. discusses the management of clavicle fractures in adolescents. Historically, clavicle fractures have been managed non-operatively with excellent results, with surgery reserved for specific cases like open fractures. Dr. Swan presents recent evidence, including the FACTS study, which concluded that surgery provides no additional benefit for completely displaced clavicle fractures in adolescents and is associated with a higher complication rate. He explains that nonunion is exceedingly rare in young people, and that adolescent clavicles have an incredible capacity for remodeling due to late closure of the physes. The typical return to play time for a non-operative approach is around 6-10 weeks, although surgical repair may accelerate this by a few weeks.
