Comando G 2020 Las Iruelas El Tiemblo Trophy Spanish Wine Review

Описание: Commando G is a winery established by Daniel Landi and Fernando García in 2008. It is located in the Sierra de Gredos mountain area in central Spain. Daniel Landi and Fernando Garcia met studying oenology in Madrid. Danny's his family vineyard is Bodegas Jimenez-Landi and Fernando's family winery is Bodega Marañones.

The G stands for Garnacha, Gredos and granite, the region’s terroir- and visually defining rock. The winery is also named after the Spanish-language version of a 1970s cartoon, Battle of the Planets, in which a team of stylishly caped heroes called G-Force (‘Comando G’) protect the Earth from alien threats.

Until 2019 this wine was labelled as 'Daniel Gomez Jimenez Landi 'Las Iruelas' El Tiemblo'. In 2020 it was absorbed into the Comando G brand. Commando G produces wines at different hierarachy levels and this wine would be considered their 2nd highest level (almost equivalent to single vineyard or monopole Burgundy wine).

Las Iruelas is a muscular Garnacha wine made from a plot of 70-75-year-old, head-pruned vines planted at an elevation of over 1000 meters above sea level. The terroir is a mixed and sandy terroir of granite and quartz, The grapes are hand harvested, then fermented in natural yeast in open vats, and then aged 16 months in a combination of 500L French oak barrels and concrete tanks.
