"I tend to loathe writing letters; the medium is often so limiting. Still, I will try to express the thought as best I can describe it without use of my symphony. The dream came to me when I was a boy, still singing in the choir at La Chiesa del Cuore Cullato. I was not quite anywhere in the dream, my sight, sensation, and smell having not followed me into the House. My hearing, however - this I retained. And what I heard was a great drum. A doubled sound, like the beat of my own heart, but magnified and exalted to such irresistible intensity that I woke screaming and still I carried that sound with me for days after. I have, as you know, dedicated myself to the service of that doubled drum for many, many years. But I have learned other things in that time, and one is that while the Heart Unrelenting is the only worthy drumbeat, one needs more than a drum to fashion a proper symphony."
