Описание: Environmental surveillance is the practice of testing sewage runoff for the presence of viruses and other pathogens. For the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), it’s a critical tool in our quest for eradication, allowing us to detect the virus even in the absence of human polio cases, and mount a rapid response to any detection. As part of its ongoing response to an outbreak of vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2), Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health has expanded the country’s environmental surveillance programme, adding nine new sites in six more states, for a total of 14 collection sites in seven states.
