Remember that crazy yard sale I went to on August 30th, 2025 where I took home a truckload of Halloween stuff? Yeah, this clock was there too, along with some more awesome stuff I still have to show. It was only 25 bucks, which is a steal, and it even came with the box which is featured at the end of the video. Of course, it also came with some issues.
Unsurprisingly, both battery compartments were extremely corroded, to the point where all 4 springs came right out with the batteries. Replacing those and cleaning the compartments was no big deal though, and amazingly the clock was fully working otherwise… almost. If anyone here is very familiar with these clocks, you may have already noticed something odd about mine’s carousel. It didn’t work at all when I first tested it, and I’m still not sure why. I opened the gearbox, which is super tiny and held together with plastic clips rather than screws, and everything went FLYING. I think I found all the pieces, but I have no reference to know for sure 😭. In place of an actual motor, it simply uses a gear attached to a small magnet suspended just above a bundle of charged copper windings. Well, both leads of those copper windings broke off, and while a clock expert might be able to find a way to rewind them, I have confirmed that it is beyond my abilities 😂. You can’t order exact replacements online, so for the time being… I kinda stuck a tiny dc motor in the gearbox instead 🤣. It works fine enough, but of course it will drain batteries faster. It also runs way too fast, and it is so noisy! I almost liked it better when it was broken lol. Hopefully I can fix it properly soon, and maybe someday this clock will get a re-upload.
Anyway, I like this thing a lot more than I thought I would. I’ve always wanted some of these Seiko clocks, and I’ve even stumbled across quite a few of them in person over the years, but they were always hundreds of dollars. This is one of the more plain models in terms of design and animation, and it’s certainly far from being one my favorite Seiko clocks. Eventually, I’d like to get my hands on some of the cooler ones. Don’t get me wrong though, this model is still an amazing sight to behold in person, and I still can’t believe I found it where I did. I think it’s a great clock to start with, and I’m happy to add it to the collection.
Thanks for checking out the video! Hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think in the comments, and I’ll see you on Tuesday for a short run of Vday videos!
