𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬:
As an extension of the World Music Heritage Series conceived and produced by maestro Bhai Baldeep Singh for Anād Records, the YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series aims to celebrate excellence in the field of music, arts, dance, theatre, and literature. The YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series marks the 550th birth anniversary of Gurū Nānak Dēv, the first gurū of the Sikhs.
𝐈𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨:
Dhruv Sangari, also known as Bilal Chisty, is a Sufi vocalist and lyricist. He trained under maestros of this art form including Ustad Meraj Nizami, Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan, and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Sangari began his musical career singing in the electro-acoustic Sufiyana ensemble Da-Saz, releasing “Jet-Lag” with them in 2008. After serving as an artist in residence at Colby College and with Germany’s dance theatre company PVC, Sangari returned to India in 2004 to found the Rooh Sufi Ensemble, going full-time as a performance artist. In 2008, he co-found Humble Mystic, an eight-member troupe of musicians. Their debut number ‘Haq Maula’ was featured on MTV’s Coke Studio. He sang ‘Lutt Jawaan’ in “Commando,” produced episode “Dumadum Must Qalandar” for Fox Life’s “Sound Trek,” and collaborated with Nitin Sawhney on music for “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.” Sangari is empaneled with the Festivals of India Abroad and a mainstay at key Sufi festivals including The Sufi Route and Bhakti Utsav. A founding member of Ektara India, Sangari is committed to research, dissemination, and documentation of mystic poetry and classical music. Dhruv’s work has been recognized by institutions including the Smithsonian, Baroda University, and the Amir Khusro Foundation.
