With 22 years of law enforcement experience back home in #Fiji, Shalemi Kumari, an @UNPOL working with #UNMISS in Jonglei, #SouthSudan, knows a thing or two about community policing and how it can contribute to protect civilians.
She finds that conducting outreach activities among vulnerable groups is a good way of increasing their safety, particularly when it comes to preventing them being subjected to gender- and conflict-related violence.
“We make them aware of how things happen and what is right, what is wrong, and what needs to be reported,” she says.
