Preparing for your Full Skin Check with your Dermatologist: What to Expect

Описание: This video is for people who are interested in getting their skin checked by a dermatologist or has already made an appointment and want to know how to prepare for it.

Why do it?
Full skin examinations are important in screening for skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma). We can’t always see our back and so it is good to have a skin specialist take a look at your back.

What to expect?
Your dermatologist will likely use dermoscopy during the examination to maginify certain skin lesions or growths with a special light (polarized and non polarized light).

How to prepare?
Try not to wear makeup and nail polish. Be ready to have your hairdo ruined as I sift through the scalp (yes, you can get skin cancers on your scalp). Wear a mask to your visit. If your significant other is with you, please have them wear a mask as well.

What happens if there is a lesion of concern?
We will perform a skin biopsy and send the tissue for pathological examination.
