For Eliane

Описание: When I heard of Eliane Radigue’s passing last week, I was moved deeply. Her works have been highly influential in the sounds I create. The first drone I ever recorded was inspired by my crude beginner attempts to evoke the feelings I got listening to her works for the first time. Listening back to that recording it was so far off the mark, but it was where I started. From there I’ve fallen in love with ring modulation and feedback and all sorts of other techniques. It truly was through Eliane that I started on the journey of finding my own voice. I don’t know that I’ve found it yet. I oscillate between so many techniques that interest me and still feel unsettled, but I always come back to a common foundation which started with Eliane.

I set to work putting together something I could dedicate to her. Something that would reflect what I knew of her techniques but turned into my own. Coincidentally I had been working on my through zero modulated wave folding idea which creates aggressive ring modulation like tones so it felt like a logical place to start.

I added multiple oscillators, ring modulation, and frequency shifting combinations with oscillators tuned as precisely as I could to get those beat frequencies often found in Eliane’s work. Exploring these foundations again after so long felt like coming home. I have found a depth of inspiration and feel like I'm overflowing with ideas. This is just the first such idea. There will be a sequel.

Last week I performed this on a live stream in my other channel and in it’s a close group of family and friends to share my reverence for her. It was an amazing experience and something I hope to do more of. It in the end the sound quality wasn’t what I wanted so I spent the weekend re-tracking everything to the four track.
