Overwhelmed by Wakkanai, Japan’s northernmost city

Описание: I spent some crazy and unbelievable hours walking the strange streets of Wakkanai, Japan in March, the midst of a harsh winter. Wakkanai is Japan's northernmost city, way up on the tip of Hokkaido – a mere 38 miles (!) from Siberia and with weather to match. First I wander the streets in the evening; I'm in the middle of town and there are hardly any cars. Just snow and the occasional other person. Lots of restaurants to choose from though, for some reason.

The next day I go explore the North Breakwater Dome on the edge of the brutally cold and snowy Sea of Japan. A sudden violent snowstorm throws me for a loop, but I have to hope that the experience wandering around a genuinely extreme place is worth the risk.
