"Moanin'" was penned by jazz pianist Bobby Timmons in 1950, and was first recorded by Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers in 1958. It has a 'funky' blues feeling that has its roots in the music of Horace Silver and Ray Charles.
Played here by the Simplicius Cheong Quartet, featuring Jason Raiss on tenor sax, Victor Gaskin on bass, Darryl Ervin on drums, with Sydney based Simplicius at the piano. Recorded live at the National University of Singapore Auditorium, March 27, 2002. Produced by Paul Abishiganaden.
