Typhoon Soulik [Huaning] has weakened slightly since earlier, but remains a powerful 140mph Category 4 typhoon in the Western Pacific. After peaking earlier at 145mph, restrengthening could be on the cards in the next 12-24 hours, and Soulik may become a Super Typhoon.
The main threat at the moment is gale force winds in the northern Philippine islands, Taiwan, and the Ryukyu Islands. However, as the storm proceeds further west, typhoon conditions are likely to occur in the Miyako and Yaeyama islands, as well as Taiwan, where Soulik could make landfall as a Category 3 typhoon. After passing Taiwan, Soulik will make a landfall in China, most likely as a minimal typhoon.
