Leslie talks around a vehicle that would cost over a million dollars to build. This 1942 Lincoln Limousine came from the factory with armored plating fit for its new owner, President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Fueled by fear of Japanese attacks following Pearl Harbor, this is the first presidential car to come with armored plating and was used so often that it traveled with the President during his international visits.

Ford equipped this Lincoln Limousine with steel plated floorboards, roofing, and a heavy wire mesh surround that secured the engine from failure due to damage. With a weight of almost 7,000 lbs, cowls were located at the top of the hood to help cool the engine. To keep up with modern design during the late 40s, Ford attached a new 1946 front bumper which gave a modern look while maintaining the vehicle's protective design. A unique feature of this car was that the President could roll the windows down, a feature that is no longer accessible in modern presidential cars.
