Choosing between the OM System 8-25mm F4 PRO and the OM System 7-14mm F2.8 PRO is one of the biggest decisions Micro Four Thirds photographers face—so in this video, I take both lenses into the real world to compare features, handling, image quality, long exposure performance, and everyday usability.
A few months ago, I chose the 8-25mm F4 PRO as my main ultra-wide lens. Today, I’m putting the 7-14mm F2.8 PRO to the test to see what I missed… and whether I made the right choice.
This video covers build quality, filter compatibility, long exposure landscapes, close-focus “macro-style” shots, and real-world shooting with both lenses on the OM System OM-1.
If you're trying to decide which Micro Four Thirds ultra-wide zoom is best for you, this is the comparison you need.
📷 Lenses Compared
OM System 8-25mm F4 PRO
Full-frame equivalent: 16–50mm
Accepts screw-in filters (ND, polariser)
Extending zoom design
Extremely sharp across the frame
Versatile focal range for landscapes & everyday use
Great for long exposure photography
OM System 7-14mm F2.8 PRO
Full-frame equivalent: 14–28mm
Constant f/2.8 aperture for low-light & astrophotography
Internal zoom (doesn’t extend)
Built-in lens hood + weather sealing
Ultra-wide focal length for dramatic landscapes
Close focusing for macro-style shots
Downside: No standard filter threads

Final thoughts: which lens suits different types of photographers
🎞 Best Lens For…
Choose the 8-25mm F4 PRO if you:
Love long exposures
Depend on polarising filters & NDs
Want a more flexible zoom range
Prefer a lens that can replace multiple focal lengths
Choose the 7-14mm F2.8 PRO if you:
Shoot astrophotography
Want the widest rectilinear view without fisheye distortion
Don’t rely heavily on filters
Enjoy dramatic architecture or ultra-wide creativity
✨ Final Thoughts
Both lenses are fantastic performers, but they excel in different areas. For my style—long exposure coastal photography—the 8-25mm remains the standout choice. However, the 7-14mm is an exceptional lens for anyone who prioritises low-light performance, extreme width, and creative close-focus options.
