Kyle Franks demonstrates how to do a veneer graft on an avocado rootstock tree. Veneer grafting is used when the tree has already formed bark and should be done only when the plant is in a vegetative state (when leafing out but not flowering or fruiting).
In this video, 2 scions from a heavy producing tree was chosen and grafted onto opposite sides (via a vascular connection) of the root stock tree. With this type of grafting, the cambium of both plants are in full contact with each other. The advantage to this approach is that rafting of mature scions onto rootstocks can result in fruiting in as little as two years.
