STORYLINE:
Russian aviation authorities have drastically tightened security at the country's airports in a wake of the terrorist attacks that brought down two Russian passenger aircraft in August.
From Friday 1st October 2004 all passengers will be required to remove their coats, belts and footwear when going through security control points at airports.
The new measures were laid down in a recent directive on aviation security issued by the Russian Federal Transport Supervision Service.
Once removed the the articles of clothing will be screened with electronic devices.
Passengers will also be searched by hand.
The heightened security regime was evident on Friday at Domodedovo airport in Moscow.
Both of the flights that were brought down by suicide bombers originated at Domodedovo.
The two planes crashed almost simultaneously on the night of August 24, killing all 90 people onboard
Security officials later said the female suicide bombers had a hard-to-trace chemical explosive strapped to their bodies.
