While at my local credit union, I saw a teller handling some old bills so I asked what they were doing and he told me these were bills going back to the Federal Reserve for destruction! He had a fairly nice 1950 US $10 bill so I asked if I could buy it and he said "Sure" one less bill for him to worry about! Ask your tellers folks, they're usually very happy to let you know if they have any old bills, old coins (silver coins?) or anything unusual, AND they HAVE to sell it to you at face value!
