In 1988, Singapore’s first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew gave a frank assessment of the country\'s second generation of leaders at the country’s annual National Day Rally.
He revealed his future successor as prime minister, Goh Chok Tong, was not his first choice, leaving Goh, who was in the audience, \'perplexed, stunned, dumbfounded\'.
\'You have to live with the awkwardness of facing the big crowd after the rally. You had to be very wooden when you came out,\' Goh revealed in a new book on his tenure as prime minister from 1990 to 2004.
