About this video
On May 16, 2025, residents of Assagao and surrounding villages gathered in a powerful show of unity to protest against an allegedly illegal and arbitrary road widening project in the Siolim constituency. The peaceful yet emotionally charged meeting raised serious concerns about the lack of Gram Sabha consultation, the destruction of Goa’s ecological and cultural heritage, and the growing threat of real estate-driven development.

Villagers, heritage activists, and local entrepreneurs voiced opposition to the project, claiming it threatens trees, homes, religious sites, and centuries-old village identity. A detailed memorandum was read aloud, calling for an immediate halt to the project and demanding transparent consultation with the community.
