What is the festival? What is the future of the festival, if conditions remain unsafe for crowds to gather in the near-term, and what might this mean for developing a sense of community? What alternate ways of togetherness are possible/needed? Now, more than ever, how might we come to better understand and to champion the essentialness of the arts?
In this final talk of as part of “Proposals for Novel Ways of Being: CIRCUIT BREAKER,” Robyn Archer (singer, writer, artistic director and advocate for the arts) discusses these questions with Suenne Megan Tan (Director, Audience Development & Engagement, National Gallery Singapore).

About “Proposals for Novel Ways of Being: CIRCUIT BREAKER"
“Proposals for Novel Ways of Being: CIRCUIT BREAKER” is the first in a series of talks programmes inaugurated by “Proposals for Novel Ways of Being”, a range of exhibitions and programmes variously organised by 12 Singapore institutions, art spaces and collectives broadly in late 2020 in response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This evolving series will host speakers that speculate, unpack, polemicise or otherwise provide perspectives on how art and culture can intimate new possibilities for the future and the role museums can play.
Taking its subtitle from Singapore’s version of a lockdown to limit the spread of the virus, CIRCUIT BREAKER is a series of talks and roundtables where speakers and interlocutors from various fields of thought and practice—from academics to artists to museum and other cultural workers—are invited to respond to the current crisis as an opportunity for change in their various domains.
