Released in 2016 and harmonized with USP 795 and USP 797 in June 2019, USP 800 Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings outlines the practice and quality standards for safe handling of hazardous drugs. This applies to nearly all aspects of the medication process including receiving, storage, dispensing, administration and disposal.
The official date for implementation of USP 800 is December 1, 2019. Many health care organizations have been working towards compliance by assessing their hazardous drug list and/or upgrading facilities to meet the standards.
