If you're a regular blogger and looking for something simple to spice up your blog posts without using images, check out Fontawesome! It's not difficult, and in this video we briefly show how anyone can use simple icon fonts with Fontawesome. Not only is it handy, the icons are not images, and when blogging, it's much quicker to add the icons then it is to take the time to find an image, re-size, optimize and upload. Also, there's no unnecessary bulk added to slow down your site. Since these icon fonts are scalable, they work much better with responsive design, than images, and with much less hassle!

There are a number of other good icon fonts available, but since this is what I’m familiar with, I’m sharing Fontawesome.

Besides freelance web design, I do a lot of blogging, and I’ve been getting carried away using too many images. I’ve found, these icon fonts to be a good tool for adding that little something to my posts, quickly and easily, speeding up the amount of time to write a post.

The video shows how to install font awesome on my iThemes Builder WordPress site but I also show how to install the code in the header.php file on my Site5’s host’s server. Builder happens to have a settings area where the header code can be placed, so if you have Builder, or any other WordPress theme with a similar set up, there’s no need to access your server files.

After we get the icon fonts up and running, I show just one quick example of how to place the fonts within a blog post. There’s much more that can be done, but I only wanted to give my viewers a brief taste of setting up and using icon fonts.
