"We disagree with this view (that Friday’s Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy facilities amounted to Moscow’s response to Macron’s proposal of a half on air attacks). Our military is continuing the special military operation, and as part of this operation they strike facilities linked with Ukraine’s military industrial complex, weapons production and so on in Ukraine."

4. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
"This is a process we're monitoring closely because the EU views Russia as the chief enemy, and all this militarisation is mainly aimed against Russia. It potentially could be a cause for deep concern, a cause for taking retaliatory measures to ensure our security."

8. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
"We remain convinced that abstracting away within this dialogue from European nuclear arsenals is impossible. Moreover, it’s even more acute now to take these arsenals into account in view of Mr. Macron’s statements offering a nuclear umbrella to ensure European nations’ security.”

"Beijing’s position (on potential nuclear disarmament talks) is yet to be found out. The Americans and Chinese have their own relations. It would be up to the U.S. (to engage China), taking into account Beijing's position. There was no talks yes and there is no understanding yet on when and where such contacts could begin."
