＜Living Fossils rare moments＞
In Nichinan Town, Tottori Prefecture, Japan
you can encounter the Japanese giant salamander, a national special
natural treasure.
They are the largest amphibians in the world, with the largest reaching
1m50cm in length.
The Japanese giant salamanders have mouths so large that they can rip
open.
For this reason, in old Japan, the Japanese used to call the giant
salamander “Hanzaki” and feared it!
But nowadays, they have small eyes for their big body.
They are popular for their cuteness!
Unfortunately, its range has been decreasing over the years,
The japanese giant salamander is now listed as an endangered species.
In the Japanese giant salamander, the male continues to protect its eggs.
This time, I documented the precious rearing of these Japanese giant
salamanders.

And one more thing.
You can see “horseshoe crabs” in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.
Horseshoe crabs are also called “living fossils”
because they have been around for approximately 200 million years
without changing shape.
Horseshoe crabs lay their eggs in the sand of the sea.
The eggs hatch in about 50 days.
I recorded the moment of hatching of the horseshoe crab.
The image of baby horseshoe crabs jumping out of the sand is very
moving!
