Hi guys it’s Ken with 4WheelOnline. Today we’re going to talk about preparing your 4x4 for winter.
You already know you have to check your tire pressure, fluids, oil and battery when winter comes around, but smart maintenance isn’t the only thing you should keep in mind for your 4x4.
Today we are going to list off the must have 4x4 gear to put on your truck before winter rolls around. So let’s get started.
The first thing to look at is getting traction that’s fit for the winter. Wide and aggressive mud tires are great for off-road, but they can have less surface area for highway traction. Getting a pair of winter tires with spikes or all-terrain tires with chains can be a better option for winter driving.
Now is also a great time to start looking at getting lockers if you haven’t already. The instant traction that an Air Locker is perfect for when you lose traction in the ice and snow.
The next thing you need to look at is actually protecting your 4x4 from the snow.
This means getting a tonneau cover if you have a truck. The tonneau cover will obviously keep your bed from filling up with snow and the fender flares can add protection against salt.
If you have a Jeep, you’ll definitely want to get a hard top if you don’t have one. It goes without saying that you’ll want the added protection when you're driving around in freezing temperatures. You also obviously don’t want snow getting inside your Jeep.
Regardless of what 4x4 have you’ll want to look into getting Floor Liners and Mats. Unless you don’t mind your carpets getting wet and nasty, investing in floor liners is a must. Plus, they’re molded for any application you need and offer great protection for when you’re out in the mud too. Fender Flares can be a great aesthetic addition too, plus they give an added level of protection against the salt.
Finally, when all else fails it is good to have a winch. We recommend these all year round, not just in the winter as they give your 4x4 utility all year round. It can even operate the snow plow if you decide to get one for your truck.
That rounds up our Winter 4x4 Gear Guide, but let us know your winter tips and what you think is must have for the winter!
Don’t forget to subscribe to stay up to date with our 4x4 community, and if you want us to make a specific video about taking your 4x4 out in the winter, let us know in the comments below and we’ll make it.
Until then, you're all caught up with 4WheelOnline!
