Forró originated in Brazil's north-eastern states and has been described as "less competitive than salsa and less pedantic than tango." If you want to try your hand at it, there are plenty of options in the capital.
In North London, The Castle, in Golders Green, holds lessons called Forró Family every Tuesday from 7.30pm. You can even stay after-class for a free practice session - and they serve great tapas, too.

Every Wednesday at 6.30pm (for beginners) and 7.30pm (for more advanced dancers), the Etrusco Centre on Hurdwick Place, next to Mornington Crescent tube station, offers fantastic classes. There are plenty of regulars to show you the ropes.
Forró aficionados will love Forró do Galpão every Thursday at Corbet Place, just off Brick Lane. There are classes from 7pm and the crowd is predominantly Brazilian.

More centrally, Guanabara holds a forró night every Sunday. The evening, including a dance class at 6.30pm, is free before 9pm. On bank holiday Sundays the party continues until 4am, with Baile funk and Brazilian carnival music thrown into the mix.
