This week we do something a bit different! We had plans to go to San Diego for a long weekend BUT instead of staying at an Airbnb (like we normally would when we visit big cities) we found an RV Resort that was cheaper and in a better location (right on the water, next to Pacific Beach area)!
Campland on the Bay was pretty much everything we needed to feel like we weren't actually "roughing" it while camping- toilets, running water, hot showers, a heated pool and jacuzzi, gym, a dog park on site AND a cantina 100 yards away.. so we had to give this place a try!
We ended up camping in a dry spot of the resort where there were no hook ups, we were (not surprisingly) the only truck tent campers in that area but had an AWESOME view of the bay right from our camp spot. It was a large spot that could easily fit 2 rigs and came with a picnic table. No fire rings at this specific site so we ended up bringing out propane fire pit with us.
RV Resort living was definitely on the more expensive side of where we've camped in the past, at $70 a night, but we couldn't complain. With everything it came with AND the location within San Diego we had a BLAST! And will definitely be doing this again in the future.
Why an RV Resort in San Diego?
1. Easy access to explore San Diego (less than 5 minutes from pacific beach, 10 minutes from ocean beach) -- great bars, restaurants and food nearby
2. We wanted a spot we knew we could go back to every night after exploring the city (not having to race against sunset to find a camp spot before it got dark) - also we didn't see a lot of public camp options within the city especially this area
3. Access to toilets/showers/running water - so we could shower easily and this really made us feel like we weren't camping at all
4. Perfect weather this time of year
5. Not overly crowded this time of year
6. San Diego was really dog friendly so we were able to take Rio with us pretty much anywhere which was a lot of fun. This trip was essentially a dog vacation for her lol
Overall we had such a good time and will be looking at RV resort in the future when we camp in other major cities.
